CONNECTING BANK ACCOUNTS

Link the band's bank accounts once, read-only, and BandBrain gets balances, transaction history, and statements automatically.

Connecting the band's bank lets BandBrain answer questions like "what's in the band account?", "what did we spend on gas this run?", or "did the Puzzles deposit land?", and it adds real expenses to tour P&Ls next to your Square, Squarespace, and Stripe sales.

Read-only, always

BandBrain can see balances, transactions, and statements. It can't move money, pay anyone, or change anything at your bank.

How to connect

  1. Go to Connectors → Money → Bank accounts → Connect.
  2. Confirm it's you with a passkey (Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, or your phone). If you don't have one on your BandBrain account yet, you're asked to add one first; it takes a few seconds. Every bank connection or reconnection asks for it, to protect the band's financial data.
  3. A secure window from Plaid opens. Find your bank (Chase and most US banks are supported) and sign in there. BandBrain never sees your bank login.
  4. Pick the account(s) to share, such as the band checking account and the band card, then finish.

That's the whole setup. Link once and everything else comes in on its own: up to about two years of transaction history (depending on the bank), the monthly statement PDFs your bank offers, and new activity as the bank posts it. To add another bank later, use Add account.

What BandBrain gets

  • Transactions arrive as your bank posts them. Very recent charges can take a little while to show up.
  • Balances refresh about once a day. BandBrain tells you when a balance was measured.
  • Statements are downloaded automatically for banks that offer them. They're searchable, so you can ask things like "what was the closing balance on the March statement?" Only Full Access members can see them.

If your bank doesn't offer statements, or you need older history

Some banks don't share statements or don't go back as far as you need. You can still add history by emailing the statements (PDF) or the account activity export (CSV) to your band's BandBrain address (the same one you forward advances to). In Chase: open the account → Statements & documents for PDFs, or the download icon on the activity list for a CSV.

BandBrain matches each one to your linked account by the last 4 digits and adds the transactions. Where a file overlaps dates the bank connection already covers, the connection wins, so nothing is counted twice. Sending the same file again is harmless.

Who can ask

Only members with Full Access (set on the roster) can ask about bank data, by text, the dashboard, or your AI assistant. Everyone else gets a polite no.

Reconnecting and disconnecting

If an account says reconnect needed, your bank asked you to sign in again (password change, expired consent). Click Reconnect and sign in; nothing is lost and syncing picks up where it left off.

Disconnect ends the connection to that bank, including all of its accounts, right away, and removes its transactions and statements from BandBrain.
