Comms is BandBrain's outbound messaging surface. Admins can fan a message out to everyone, a role, a knowledge category, or a specific set of people, across SMS / email.
Where comms live
- Dashboard composer: /dashboard/comms — full multi-channel composer with audience picker, preview, and history.
- Home page quick card: a slim version on the home page for fast one-off SMS sends.
- Via SMS: text BandBrain "text everyone the hotel info for tonight" — the agent handles the lookup, preview, and send.
Channels
| Channel | Default | When to use |
|---|---|---|
| SMS | ON | Default for most broadcasts. Most reliable on tour. |
| OFF | Long messages, anything with attachments or links you want preserved. |
You can enable any combination per broadcast. A person reachable on multiple channels gets the message on each enabled channel (once per channel, not duplicated).
Audience
Pick from:
- Everyone — every roster member
- Band & crew — touring members (excludes external roles)
- By role — checklist of specific roles
- By category — anyone with overlap with the selected knowledge categories (e.g. "everyone with finance access")
- Specific people — pick individuals from a checklist
The audience filter resolves at send time, so if you add someone to the roster between Preview and Send, they're included.
Preview + confirm
For SMS specifically, every send goes through a Preview + Confirm step:
- Resolves the audience right then
- Shows how many people are ready vs skipped (no phone, opt-in pending, opted out)
- Shows a sample of recipient names
- Confirms the message body
You can only fire the actual send by clicking the confirm button — no accidental sends, even from the agent.
Skipped recipients
A recipient might be skipped because:
- No phone — they don't have an SMS channel mapped
- Opt-in pending — they were sent the A2P opt-in invite but haven't replied YES
- Opted out — they replied STOP at some point
Skipped counts are surfaced both in the preview and on the comms history row so you know who's getting through and who isn't.
History
The comms history at the bottom of /dashboard/comms shows the last 20 sends with channel, audience, delivered/skipped counts, sender, and timestamp.
