The design intent
BandBrain's dashboard is designed for desktop / laptop — sitting down at your computer to set things up, send broadcasts, review the day. Mobile works (the layout is responsive), but it's not where the heavy lifting happens.
For on-the-go interactions (on a bus, at a venue, walking to load-in), the right surface is messaging — SMS, email. You text BandBrain a question, you get an answer. No app to open, no login, no scrolling.
Why this split
The dashboard does things that are clunky on a phone:
- Drive Picker (browse your Drive folders)
- Multi-channel comms composer
- Per-row roster editing
- Coverage matrix
- Usage dashboard
The messaging surface does things that are perfect on a phone:
- "What's tonight's hotel?"
- "Lobby time tomorrow?"
- "Add John +1 to tonight's list"
If you only have a phone, you can do everything via SMS — the agent has tools for guest list, schedule edits, fact corrections, contacts, comms. The dashboard isn't required for any of those. It just makes some workflows faster (e.g. picking individuals from a checklist beats listing names over text).
What works on mobile dashboard
- All read views (Roster, Comms history, Inbox, Coverage, Usage, Knowledge)
- Reading help articles
- Quick comms send (the home page compact composer)
- Quick contact add
What's painful on mobile dashboard
- The full Comms composer (lots of options, modal flow)
- Roster member editing (multi-row form)
- Drive Picker (Google's UI is desktop-built)
- The Coverage matrix (wide horizontal scroll)
TL;DR
- Setup / config: desktop
- Sending broadcasts: desktop OR SMS to the bot
- Daily lookups: SMS to the bot
- Editing tour data: SMS to the bot OR desktop
Don't try to do tour-day operations from the dashboard on a phone. Use the messaging surface — that's what it's there for.
