Send a test to yourself first
Before broadcasting to the band:
- Go to Comms (sidebar)
- Channel: leave SMS on (default)
- Audience: pick Specific people → check just yourself
- Body: type "comms test"
- Click PREVIEW + SEND
- In the modal, confirm the count is 1, then click SEND TO 1
- You should get the text on your phone within a few seconds
This proves your channel + audience + opt-in chain is working.
Broadcast to the band
Once the test works, real broadcast:
- Channel: SMS (or check Email if you want that too)
- Audience: Everyone (or pick a more scoped audience)
- Body: your message
- PREVIEW + SEND
- Read the preview carefully — count, sample names, skip count + reasons
- SEND TO X
What to write
- Keep it short. SMS segments at 160 chars. The composer shows char count.
- Plain text only. No markdown — asterisks render literally on SMS.
- Include the timezone if you mention a time. "Lobby 8:15 AM EDT" — not just "8:15".
- Be direct. Crew read these on phones in motion. "Lobby 8:15. Coffee in the lobby."
When to use email too
- Email for long messages, anything with a link you want preserved, or important info you want a written record of
After the send
The Comms history row shows the result: delivered count, skipped count, sender, timestamp. If anything failed, the row surfaces the error.
