EMAIL AS A BROADCAST CHANNEL

When and how to send a broadcast by email as well as SMS.

By default, the comms composer sends SMS only. You can also enable Email per broadcast.

How to enable

In the full comms composer at /dashboard/comms, the Channels row has two chips: SMS and Email. Click either to toggle, or use both.

The compact composer on the home page is SMS-only — to use email, use the full page.

When to use SMS

  • Time-sensitive info that needs immediate read ("doors are pushed to 8")
  • Short, direct, scannable
  • Most reliable on tour — works without an app, on any cell network

When to use Email

  • Long messages (> 320 chars / 2 SMS segments)
  • Anything you want a written record of
  • Anything with links you want preserved (SMS works but the link previews are weak)
  • When the recipient is more likely to check email than SMS

Email broadcasts use your band's BandBrain alias as the From address: <yourband>@bandbrain.ai. Subject defaults to "Update from <yourband>"; you can override per broadcast.

Per-channel readiness

The preview modal breaks down ready/skipped counts per channel. A recipient might be:

  • SMS-ready but no email → SMS goes, email skips
  • Both ready → both send (the same body on each)

The same person never gets the message twice on the same channel — but they DO get it across each channel you enabled. So if you enable SMS + Email and they're on both, they receive both.

Attachments

The dashboard composer doesn't have file-attachment UI yet. For now:

  • SMS: include a link in the body (Drive / Dropbox link works)
  • Email: include a link in the body

True file-attachment support for email is on the roadmap. Until then, share via link.

What gets logged

Every broadcast appears in /dashboard/comms history with channels comma-separated (sms, email), recipient counts per channel, and any errors.
